About Coach Jex

Growing up I enjoyed snow skiing and gymnastics. My background as a gymnast, and later a gymnastics coach, gave me a good platform for body mechanics and awareness and helped me to develop skills that translated well to CrossFit. I was hesitant to try CrossFit at first because I had never really done any weight lifting (besides the 10-pound dumbbells and the gym), and I had no experience with Olympic lifts at all. Once I gave it a shot I found the atmosphere and community to be inspiring, inclusive, and extremely supportive of athletes at all levels.

CrossFit Level 1, Spot the Flaw Course, Scaling Course, Bachelors Degree- Recreation Leadership, Health Science & Physical Education, Masters of Science- Nursing Administration

Turning Point

I have found that during challenging times I tend to be my own biggest obstacle, often putting self-limitations on the things that I think I can or can't do both in life and athletic pursuits. As an example, I started running as an adult and often told myself, and others, "I am a slow runner". It took a running coach telling me one day that he believed I had the ability to run faster before I recognized that ability in myself. I hope that as a CrossFit coach I can help others overcome self-doubt, increase confidence, and prove to themselves that they can do things they have told themselves are not possible.

Motivation & Passion

I enjoy being a CrossFit coach because I love helping people achieve their goals, or even accomplish things that they never dreamed of doing. Even though CrossFit is a structured environment there is so much opportunity for all of the movements to be scaled so that each athlete can participate at their own level and progress at their own pace. There are so many reasons to be a part of the CrossFit community, but most of all it's fun!
